Confirm Shipments Automatically
with data imported from
third-party shipping manifest system
Standard Cat’s Pajamas systems enable operators to enter an invoice number,
shipping date, and shipping method to confirm orders as shipped. It is a
straightforward process. But if the process takes more than ten or fifteen
minutes a day, or more than an hour each week, consider adding the option to
confirm shipments, instead, from a data file imported from a shipping manifest
system. The optional module to import a data file to confirm shipments will
pay for itself within a year or less.
Cat’s Pajamas doesn’t need much data in a file to confirm a shipment—just
the invoice number and the shipping date. In addition to that minimal
information, publishers may wish also to facilitate customer service by
importing the number of packages or cartons and tracking information for each
into Cat’s Pajamas. Tracking information for each carton or package can be
written as comments to the invoice, which can be viewed or printed.
Some publishers may wish to import, also, the actual shipping method,
weight, number of cartons, and shipping charges. The module can be customized
to update certain types of invoices but not others. For example, if shipping
has already been charged on a prepaid invoice, the total of the invoice should
not be changed. Or if the invoice was free, shipping charges should not be
added.
Publishers that wish to import actual shipping charges may wish, also, to
print billing documents only after they have been shipped. Publishers that
wish to batch and print shipping and billing documents separately may consider
adding the Post-shipping Deferred Billing module.
