Loose and/or Prepackaged Set LogicAll Cat’s Pajamas systems enable operators to set up and sell many different kinds of products. Publishers that wish to process or analyze orders or sales for components of items sold as in groups or packages need enhanced logic for linking components to packages.
Systems with activated sets logic have an additional module to define a bill of materials for a set or package. Components and sets are first defined as product records; the bill of materials links individual components to a particular package name. The bill of materials captures data about the price, quantity, and cost of component items within the set. The Cat’s Pajamas sets module can be configured for prepackaged sets, loose sets, or both. Prepackaged sets are made up in advance. Orders are entered for the sets. As orders for prepackaged sets are sold, inventory is relieved for the package – not for the components. Loose sets are made up as ordered. As loose sets are ordered and shipped, inventory is allocated and relieved for the package and for the components. Invoice shipping and billing documents can be configured to print the package, components, or both. The sets module introduces additional complexity to a Cat’s Pajamas system. When sets logic is active, reporting programs offer operators the choice of reporting on components or sets. Month-end closing programs usually are configured to report sales of the set packages. Because the price or cost of a set may not be equally divisible between its components, Cat’s Pajamas includes logic to round component prices or costs automatically to adjust for the difference. Circumstances where the rounded sales of components do not equal the totals of the packages are reported for information in a special section of month-end closing reports. Loose and/or prepackaged set logic can be installed at any time. For more information, email your questions (including your name and company name) or call at 800-827-2287.
