Print Bar Codes
on packing slips, shipping labels,
invoices, or other forms
Many publishers are adding systems in their warehouse to increase
productivity and efficiency. Often data is exported from Cat’s Pajamas to the
manifest system for printing shipping labels. In order to access the data in
the manifest system, the shipping or packing operator enters the invoice
number or customer ID.
Speed this process by adding a bar code to the packing slip or invoice.
Then, instead of manually entering the customer ID or invoice number, the
packer/shipper can use a bar code wand or other device to read the bar code.
This is not only faster, but much more accurate – manual data entry of the
invoice number or customer ID is eliminated.
A Cat’s Pajamas programmer/analyst can work with you to add barcode
information to packing slips, invoices, shipping labels, or other forms. Since
every printer brand and model is different, the challenge lies in correctly
identifying the information required to generate the bar code. Typically, the
following technical information is required:
-
The control string required by the printer to shift
into graphics mode
-
The control or character string required by the
printer to indicate the name of the bar code font
-
The control or character string required by the
printer to indicate the height and width of the bar code
-
The control string or escape sequence required by the
printer to shift into character mode
The Cat’s Pajamas programming team has worked with many publishers to
enable printing of bar code information. Because of the uncertainties
involved, the costs of analysis, programming, and testing are billed as we go.
Hence it is not possible for us to estimate the cost of programming a bar code
interface.
