Additional Databases

Some CPJ publishers or distributors need to track sales separately for imprints, divisions, or other companies. There are several ways to accomplish this.

The easiest and least expensive way, often used by publishers who distribute books for other companies, is to keep all data in one database and separate the sales reporting by using separate author or sponsor codes or owner codes  for each publisher. [The owner code is a release 4.1 code]. Several key system reports can be selected or sequenced by these codes.

If the accounts receivable must be kept separately for each imprint, there are two options:

• Use a separate set of data files for each imprint, but use the same customized programs for all sets of data files. This option requires only that CPJ create a set of data files for each additional database.

• Use a separate set of data files for each imprint AND use a separate set of customized programs for each imprint. This is the more complex (and therefore more expensive) option. It requires that CPJ create a new set of customized programs as well as a new set of data files for each additional database.
