Automatic Backlist Field Updates

The current release systems (4.1) have a standard field in the book record to indicate whether a title is Frontlist, Backlist, or neither. Several programs, such as book viewing or reporting allow selection or sequencing by Frontlist and Backlist. Many publishers find that most sales of new titles happen within the first three to six months of publication; hence the Frontlist/Backlist flag can be a powerful tool for analysis.

Different publishers use different criteria for defining Frontlist and Backlist. The field can be updated manually at any time. Publishers with a significant number of titles may wish to automate the update of titles from Frontlist to Backlist. The criteria used by the publisher can be programmed into the month-end closing module. Then when a month is closed, titles that have reached the end of their Frontlist cycle are updated to Backlist. Different criterion can be used for different imprints, series, distributed lines, or for other types of products.

These options are available only on Release 4.1 systems.
