Send Emails from Cat's PajamasAs people get more comfortable using the Internet for their purchases and communications, they’re starting to expect emails that let them know when their order is received or shipped. Release 4.1 can be customized to send plain format order-acknowledgement or shipment-confirmation emails. Emails that include attachments or that are sent to multiple recipients may add to programming costs. Typically, the program to batch/print invoices is customized to update an email event file with orders or confirmed invoices that are eligible for email notifications. Capturing email events within other programs may be possible and may add to programming costs. A new program will be provided to generate emails on demand for records in the email file. A programming customization planner is available to help you and your colleagues specify exactly how you would like the email notifications to work. Among the issues to be decided are which events will generate emails, and the content of the emails. Some publishers choose a very simple email format for a single event (such as notifying the purchaser that their order has shipped). Other publishers opt for email formats that include the status of each line item to acknowledge orders and provide shipping information. A test email program will be provided to assess the feasibility of communicating between your Cat’s system and your email server. The cost of programming and testing email communications is on a time and materials basis. After determining that email communication can be established between Cat’s and your email server, detailed specifications and an estimate of costs will be provided for approval.
