Add Surcharges to Shipping Rates

Some shipping carriers have added a variety of shipping-rate surcharges: the fuel surcharge, the delivery area surcharge (based on certain zip codes), and the residential surcharge.  A Release 4.1 system can be customized so that shipping surcharges can be associated with your shipping methods. 

Up to two "flat-rate" surcharges and two "percentage" surcharges can be defined.  Any of them can be associated with an external look-up file (i.e., to look up the zip code to see if it's one of those rural areas).  The surcharge can be based on certain customer types or other characteristics of a customer or order.  The rate or percentage associated with each shipping method is user-maintained.
