Our HistoryThe Cat's Pajamas has been in business since the late 1970s—a longevity that is rare among software companies. Company founder and president Wayne Olson has a broad range of business experience that brings unique qualities to our software.
Cat's Pajamas software was written to take advantage of the robust file handling and search techniques within the DB/C language. The first Cat's Pajamas system was written for Ten Speed Press—then a small trade publisher. Ten Speed Press has grown over thirty times larger and still uses Cat's Pajamas to keep their business humming.
From the beginning, the Cat's Pajamas system of integrated programs attracted the attention of publishers across the country. Staff experienced in the publishing industry joined Cat's Pajamas. Their operations, financial, marketing, and sales experience is reflected in the workflow interface and information access throughout the Cat's Pajamas system. The combination of efficiency, tight auditing controls, and easy reconciliations of data are elements that appeal to publishers seeking a long-term stable solution.
By the mid-1980s, the PC began to replace the mini-computer, and our system was rewritten for PCs.
Since 1990, there have been five new releases of Cat's Pajamas software, each reflecting changes in the publishing industry and each exploiting advantages of increased hardware speed and reduced disk costs. Programming techniques to conserve disk space gave way to large archives for quick online access to order activity and shipment history. These large archives, coupled with Cat's Pajamas unique associative search technology, yield extremely fast and flexible access.
Active interaction with our client publishers keeps us in tune with changes in the publishing industry. Today our staff and subcontractors provide analysis, programming, installation, training, and support services to the many publishers and related businesses that use our system.
